Terms

Ribbon terms of use

These terms cover Ribbon, the Darby Bible app for Android published by Burystack, and Ribbon Premium, the subscription it needs. Nothing in them takes away your legal rights as a consumer.

About these terms

Ribbon is published by Burystack (“we” and “us” in these terms). Burystack is a trading name: your agreement under these terms is with the company named on our Legal page, which also gives its company number and registered office.

By using Ribbon or subscribing to Ribbon Premium, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use Ribbon. Google Play’s own terms also apply when you download Ribbon and when you pay for Ribbon Premium.

How Ribbon handles your information is in the Ribbon privacy policy.

Ribbon Premium and the free trial

Everything in Ribbon needs Ribbon Premium. Without it, Ribbon opens on the screen where you choose a plan. Ribbon needs an internet connection the first time it opens, and now and then after that, to check your subscription.

New subscribers get a 30-day free trial of Ribbon Premium. After that it’s £2.49 a month or £19.99 a year in the UK. You choose monthly or yearly in Ribbon, then start your free trial. Before you confirm, Google Play shows you the price and how long your free trial is.

The free trial is for new subscribers. Google Play checks this against your Google account, and if you’ve had Ribbon Premium or its free trial before, you may not get another. If you don’t get a free trial, your subscription starts, and you’re charged, straight away. The screen where you choose a plan shows this before you subscribe.

Google Play takes the payment. We never see your card or bank details. Your plan renews automatically at the end of each month or year, and Google Play charges you each time, until you cancel. If we put the price up, Google Play tells you before the higher price applies to your subscription, and you can cancel before it does. Google Play may ask you to agree to the higher price, and if you don’t, your subscription ends when the time you’ve paid for runs out.

Your subscription goes with the Google account you subscribed with. On a new phone, or after reinstalling Ribbon, sign in to Google Play with that account and tap Restore purchases on the screen where you choose a plan.

Cancelling and refunds

You can cancel any time in Google Play. In Ribbon, go to Settings, tap Subscription, then Manage subscription. Cancelling stops the next payment, and you keep Ribbon Premium until the end of your free trial or of the time you’ve paid for. To avoid being charged at all, cancel before your free trial ends. Deleting Ribbon from your phone doesn’t cancel your subscription.

Payments go through Google Play, so the quickest way to ask for a refund is usually in Google Play, under Google Play’s refund policies. You can also email us at any time, and we’ll look into it ourselves. Either way, you keep the rights set out under Your rights.

When your subscription ends

If your free trial or subscription ends, Ribbon shows the screen where you choose a plan, and the rest of the app stays locked until you subscribe again. Nothing is deleted: your plans, notes and everything else stay on your phone, ready for when you come back. While Ribbon is locked you can’t save a backup file from it, so if you want a copy, save one before your free trial or subscription ends.

If Google Play can’t take a payment, Ribbon says so in Settings, under Subscription, where Update payment method takes you to Google Play. Google Play may give you some time to put it right, and you keep Ribbon Premium during that time. If the payment still doesn’t go through, Ribbon locks until it does or you subscribe again.

Your rights

Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer. For example, if Ribbon is faulty or not as described, you may be entitled to have it put right or to some or all of your money back. If Ribbon damages your phone or anything on it because we didn’t use reasonable care and skill, we’ll repair the damage or pay you compensation. For more about your rights, see Citizens Advice.

Using Ribbon

While you have Ribbon Premium, you’re free to use Ribbon for yourself. This licence is personal to you, and you can’t pass it on to anyone else. Except where the law allows it, please don’t:

  • copy, sell or rent out the app
  • change or take apart the app
  • get round the subscription check or other protections in the app

The app, its software, design, words and pictures belong to us or to those who license them to us. J.N. Darby’s New Translation (1890), Easton’s Bible Dictionary (1897) and Webster’s Revised Unabridged Dictionary (1913) are in the public domain, and these terms don’t limit what you or anyone else can do with those texts.

You’re welcome to share the verse pictures and text that Ribbon makes for you to share.

Your data and backups

What you do in Ribbon, such as your plan, notes and collections, is kept on your phone, not by us. We can’t see it, and we can’t get it back for you if it’s lost. So keep your own backups: Android can back Ribbon up to your Google account if Backup is turned on in your phone’s settings, and you can save a backup file in Settings: under Saved and backups, tap Backup and restore, then Save a backup file. The privacy policy says what Ribbon keeps and where it goes.

Changes to Ribbon and to these terms

We update Ribbon from time to time to improve it, fix problems or keep up with Android and the law, and an update may change how a feature works. If we ever take away an important part of what you’re paying for, we’ll tell you in advance, and you can cancel and get back what you’ve paid for the time after the change.

We may also change these terms, for example when Ribbon, Google Play’s rules or the law changes. The date at the top of this page shows when they last changed. If a change could make things worse for you, we’ll tell you in the app before it applies, and you can cancel before then and get back what you’ve paid for the time after the change.

We may transfer these terms to another organisation, for example if Ribbon is sold. We’ll tell you if that happens, and if you’re unhappy you can cancel and get back what you’ve paid for time you won’t get.

If Ribbon stops

If we ever stop offering Ribbon or Ribbon Premium, we’ll tell you in advance, stop renewing subscriptions and refund what you’ve paid for time you won’t get. Before then, save a backup file if you want a copy of your plans and notes. It’s a plain text file, but only Ribbon can restore it.

Our responsibility to you

If we break these terms or don’t use reasonable care and skill, we’re responsible for loss or damage you suffer that was foreseeable. Loss is foreseeable if it was obvious it would happen, or if you and we both knew it might happen when you subscribed. We’re not responsible for loss that wasn’t foreseeable. Ribbon is for personal use, so we’re not responsible for any loss of business, profit or business opportunity.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our responsibility where the law doesn’t allow it. That includes death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, and your rights as a consumer, such as Ribbon being of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described.

The law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and you can bring legal proceedings about them in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland, you can also bring them in the Scottish courts, and if you live in Northern Ireland, in the courts of Northern Ireland. If you live outside the UK, you may also have rights under the law where you live.
